It is extremely important for human beings to have a healthy liver as this is the organ that breaks down chemicals in our bodies, from the environment. It acts as a filter of the bloodstream and is the hardest working organ in the body, very often neglected in proper care. Doctors across the globe agree that an unhealthy liver is in most cases the underlying problem to being overweight and ill.

The function of your liver is to remove bio-chemicals from your body, which are natural by-products of the body’s normal functions. Unhealthy eating habits and polluted air add to the toxins in your body and cause an overload to the liver. You liver stops working optimally and becomes sluggish, causing you to feel tired. It is often also the main cause of cancer and diabetes.

Add to your diet plenty of apples and garlic as they assist in binding and excreting heavy metals and improves the filtration process of the liver. To promote liver decongestion and improve liver function, eat eggs, whole grains, brown rice and broccoli. They contain high levels of Vitamin B12 which also helps to metabolize fat.  Enzymes help in the detoxification of the liver and are produces by the liver with the help of cauliflower, cabbage and lettuce.  To promote the flow and production of bile, eat bitter vegetables like chicory, mustard and dandelion greens.

Following a healthy lifestyle and breaking bad habits can vastly aid in the healing and general health of your liver. Avoid processes food and foods with added preservatives. Lower your intake of carbohydrates and refined foods and reduce the amount of alcohol you consume. Smoking causes damage to your body and lungs and is a major cause of high toxic levels. It is also advisable to eat your vegetables raw wherever possible and include fresh fruit in your diet.

It is not hard to make these few lifestyle changes and seeing the changes in your body will certainly motivate you to continue with living healthy. The rewards are vitality, renewed energy and longevity.
