How To Detox Your Body
Most people think that detox is for drug abusers or alcoholic who need to cleanse their bodies from the effects the drugs and alcohol had on them. This is not the whole truth. Detox is for everybody and is a very necessary part of healthy living.
We are living in a world where our foods need to be cooked quickly, fresh vegetables need to last longer on the shelves and everything preserved in a bottle needs to last as long as possible. All we want to do is open a can, warm a meal in the microwave or stop at the nearest take out and grab something to eat or drink. Our lifestyles don’t allow time for home cooking, for fresh garden vegetables or anything that takes longer than 20 minutes to prepare. Add to that the pollution from our cars, factories and aerosols and the preservatives in our food becomes the last thing you worry about. There is not much you can do about the pollution in the air, but there is much you can do about your eating habits and taking care of your body.
Have you ever wondered why you are constantly sick or tired without understanding why or being able to put your finger on what is making you sick? Have you been drinking your daily dose of vitamins and minerals in capsule form, yet you’re sure it’s not really working or helping at all? When your body’s own detox machine gets overworked and tired, nothing you add to your diet is going to make much difference. You need to learn how to detox and rid your system of the toxins that enter your body through your unhealthy lifestyle and the food you eat.
The simplest place to start is to check what you eat. Avoid greasy take away foods. Try to make time to prepare healthy foods that are preservative free and look for fresh organic vegetables. Many of the vegetables we buy today have been treated with chemicals to control pests and chances are that the residue of those pesticides used, are still on the vegetables. If you cannot find organic, make sure to wash the fresh produce thoroughly.
Your liver acts as your body’s detox machine by removing toxins from your cells. The liver is aided by your lungs, kidneys and lymphatic system. All of these organs work together to keep your body healthy, but when the toxin levels in your body becomes too high, your liver stops functioning optimally and becomes sluggish and unable to keep your system clean. This is when you need to assist your liver by going on a detox diet and drinking plenty of fresh water. Include in your diet fresh fruit and fruit juice, raw vegetables, unrefined sea salt, plenty of fibre and herbs to help cleanse your body. Try to stay away from medication and antibiotics and rather opt for herbal remedies and meditation.
For those of you who want to take detox a step further, you can go on a raw foods detox, fruit juice only or adding herbal teas to your lifestyle. A strenuous detox should not be continued for more than 3 days as your body will need fibre and healthy fats to keep other parts of your body healthy. Assisting you liver in its cleansing process is essential if you live a fast paced life in an environment full of chemicals and toxins.
Once you have made a couple of lifestyle changes, you will soon start to feel better, your energy levels will rise and your skin will start to glow. Continuing this healthy lifestyle will help you live longer and give you more quality of life.
