Facts about Detox Diets

If you want to cleanse your internal system, you can go for Detox diets. Before you start this method, you must know a few facts.

Firstly, a detox diet course will not help you to lose weight. It will help you to clean your body system. For a few days, you need to abstain from eating some foods and take laxatives which will help to purify the intestine and also the liver.

During your diet, you will need to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. You have to keep them unprocessed and raw in most cases, because if you cook them, they will lose important minerals and vitamins. The people, who completed the program successfully, have responded saying that they have become healthier and their energy levels have increased significantly.

For people having certain health conditions like patients having diabetes, eating problems, cardiac diseases and other chronic illnesses, detox diet courses are not recommended. Detox diets must also not be taken by pregnant women or nursing mothers.

Also, teenagers should not take the detox diet as this will remove vitamins and essential minerals which are vital requirements for their all round growth and body development.

Detox diets can become addicting and must be done one or two times a year. Some people have compared the detox diets to addictions like smoking or taking drugs which is tough to abstain from and can cause health problems like eating problems, heart trouble or result in death.

Detox diet also causes side effects like acne, headaches, weakness, pangs of hunger and irritability.  So think again before going on it.

This can also be experienced when taking detox supplements and tablets as most of it is actually composed of laxatives. You will need to go to the bathroom very often and at times this can be messy. So this will remove most of the minerals and water from your body and you must drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration, make up mineral imbalances and also take care of any other disorders that may trouble your digestive system.

When the detox diet continues for many days, you may get the notion that you are losing weight but actually you will lose water from your body and some muscle mass. You will ultimately regain the weight lost at the end of the course when you start eating regular food.

Not many studies have been conducted to prove that a detox diet is effective. In fact, not much evidence is available to prove that toxins have been removed from your body as a result of this diet. This is hard to prove because your kidneys and liver were functioning properly before you have started the program and you could to excrete stool and urine regularly.

So, there are positive as well as negative points on detox diets. You know now what results to expect from this and you can take a decision whether you want to go for this or not. Do consult your doctor to make sure you can take the diet and you do not have any restrictions based on health or age.

Keep in mind that apart from this process, the body removes toxins in a natural way and you can let your body do its job instead of forcing it out. There are different other diet programs apart from the detox courses which can do you good although there is not much guarantee that it will help you in the same way as it did to others.
